The Affordable Care Act's individual mandate requires taxpayers to have qualifying health coverage, qualify for an exemption, or pay a penalty. However, in December of 2017 President Trump signed into laq the Tax Cuts and Job Act, which eliminated the penalty for non-compliance with the individual mandate beginning with the 2019 tax year.
